Couple celebrates 60th wedding anniversary

The couple said marriage is a commitment.

McKenzie Park couple Kenneth (80) and Radha (85) Paul’s marriage reached diamond status with the celebration of their 60th wedding anniversary on November 5.

The pair met in 1959 in Durban through Kenneth’s cousin who was boarding at the house of Radha’s parents.

They moved to Benoni in 2003 where they still reside with all seven of their children.

“It took some time before they fell in love with each other,” said their daughter, Jacqueline Karen Kasavaloo.

“After months of courtship they got fonder of each other and knew they were destined to be together and got married a year later.”

The couple said marriage is a commitment.

“The sacrament of marriage must be respected by every couple. There will always be challenges in a marriage but it is how you stay together as a couple and overcome these challenges which makes for a long and lasting marriage,” they explained.

“In family life, there are always highs and lows but prayer and faith has brought us through it all.”

The couple reminisced about three of their fondest memories:

• The purchase of their first home in 1981.

• Travelling to India in 2006.

• Travelling to Thailand and Singapore in 2012.

They have 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

“Accept the good and bad things in each other’s lives and help each other throughout your marriage to become better people,” they said.

“Faith, love and perseverance are good ingredients for a successful marriage, along with a family that prays together.”

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the Pauls will celebrate their milestone with their immediate family only.
