All-new Hyundai Tucson finally revealed with a fresh new design
Following a number of teasers, Hyundai has finally revealed its all-new Tucson SUV that spawns a sharp new design and new engine options.
Is it a completely new vehicle and looks different from the outgoing model. The new Hyundai Tucson comes with a similar triangular grille that we have seen in the next Elantra sedan that debuted a few weeks ago.
The headlights have been incorporated into the grille using LED elements and the rear comes fitted with blade-like rear lights plus a full-width LED bar. Inside, the new Hyundai Tucson boasts a dual-screen infotainment system that offers a 10.3-inch display.
Offered as standard is an 8.0-inch screen that enables Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity as well as two-device Bluetooth connectivity.
Hyundai’s designers dispensed with physical knobs and buttons, so all AVN and heat, ventilation and air conditioning functions are controlled via touch, making it the first Hyundai model to feature a full touchscreen console.
The all-new Tucson’s dimensions have been expanded by 20mm in length, 15mm in width and a wheelbase that has been stretched by 10mm. As a result, rear passengers can enjoy 26mm of additional legroom.
This has been achieved for both the hybrid and internal combustion engine models, due to clever placement of the battery underneath the rear passenger seats.
Meanwhile, boot space has been increased by 33 to 107 litres, depending on the chosen trim and powertrain, offering up to 620 litres overall for luggage with the seats up and up to 1,799 litres with the seats folded.
Hyundai has developed a wide variety of tyre options for the all-new Tucson with three aerodynamic wheel choices: 17-inch steel or alloy, or 18- and 19-inch alloy options.
In terms of power, the new Tucson range will be powered by three electrified engine options and two internal combustion engines matched with four transmission choices.
A 1.6-litre turbocharged T-GDI petrol engine and a 44.2 kW electric motor will do the job and will employ a six-speed automatic transmission. A combined power output of 169 kW will be sent to the front wheels or to all four wheels.
There is a turbocharged petrol engine that is hybrid assisted. It spawns a 48V mild-hybrid with 110 kW and 132 kW. The 11 kW can be had in FWD format while the latter can be had in AWD form.
Hyundai says a 1.6-litre petrol engine comes with 110 kW while the diesel unit churns out 85 kW. A plug-in hybrid will be offered at a later stage with 195 kW.
