‘I am trying to make a living’ dagga transporter tells cops

The police stopped the vehicle with the intention of asking the driver where he was heading since it was already after curfew

A 30-year-old man was arrested for being in possession of and transporting dagga on July 22, in Emaphupheni Extension 19, in Etwatwa.

Etwatwa SAPS spokesperson Sgt Khensani Mathebula said officers Sgt Prince Rashaka, Const Tshifhiwa Maleta and Const Avuyile Ndongawere were driving along the R555 Emaphupheni towards Ematafuleni when they came across a white Hyundai bakkie with a canopy.

“The police stopped the vehicle with the intention of asking where the man was heading since it was already after curfew, according to the level three Disaster Management Act,” said Mathebula. “The man acted suspiciously when questioned and could not explain why he was on the road.”

“While the police were questioning the driver, they noticed luggage in the back of the bakkie. Upon searching it they found three bags of dagga. They asked where he got the dagga and the man said ‘I am trying to make a living as I am unemployed’,” Mathebula said.

The man was arrested and scheduled to appear in the Daveyton Magistrate’s Court.
