Mahindra SA #RISE to the occasion

Staff, dealers and partners of Mahindra South Africa have been following through on the company’s # MahindraRISE ethos and have been helping communities in need.

The #RISE ethos is not only reserved for South Africa but rather is a global ethos which is a culmination of three distinct driving principles namely; ‘Accepting no limits’, ‘Alternative thinking’ and ‘Driving positive change’. Driving positive change in communities around South Africa, Mahindra’s staff, dealers and partners has kicked off their #RiseForGood campaign which will see a series of road trips around the country where the money that has been allocated towards the cause will be used to benefit these communities in need.

Rob Bentele, a friend of Mahindra and winner of the 2019 Survivor series, kick-started the #RiseForGood initiative with a number of donations to families in his rural home in KwaZulu-Natal.

“At Mahindra, we are always looking for opportunities to help our local communities. We conceptualised the idea of partnering with everyone in our sphere of influence for a #RiseForGood campaign, which was kick-started by our friend and the winner of the last Survivor series, Rob Bentele. Rob started the momentum by using his own money, commandeering his friends and family – and his XUV300 – and delivering as many food parcels as possible to needy households in his childhood community of rural KwaZulu-Natal. Following this selfless action, we handed the baton to our staff and challenged them to do the same, and we encourage dealers and other companies in our sphere of influence to help out.” Rajesh Gupta, CEO, Mahindra South Africa.

The #RiseForGood campaign will not only benefit communities in need but also spark positive energy amongst Mahindra staff, customers and the areas in which Mahindra operates in. The initiative requires the selfless cooperation of all 67 dealerships within the national network and the community members that assist in driving change. These acts will instil ‘doing good’ as a purpose, an attitude, and a way of life and aim to go beyond philanthropy and corporate social responsibility.

Staff at Mahindra’s head office in Pretoria started with their first #RiseForGood donations on 1 July. This will soon be followed by similar donations from other departments, as well as donations from Mahindra dealers and partners.

This campaign reflects the three driving principles behind the Mahindra group and its efforts in driving positive change in the lives of its stakeholders whether it is serving customer needs, contributing to the dreams of its people or taking care of the planet.

“We are very fortunate that our dealer network has adopted this philosophy and that they are also keen to #RiseForGood. Many of them have already started helping their customers and communities with donations, service support and even transport during the lockdown,” continued Rajesh.

The campaign kicked off on 1 July and with the donations received by internal departments will execute projects initiated by its dealers. Customers and the public can also take part in the campaign in their own capacity and is encouraged to share their stories on social media using the hashtags #MahindraSA, #RiseForGood, #WithYouAlways, #AlwaysUpForAChallenge and #MahindraRise.
