Schaper (8) on top of his game

Due to the lockdown, the Benoni City Times decided to do a catch up and find out how things have been delayed or have stepped up during this time for Camden.

Camden Schaper (8), who trains at the SuperSport United Soccer School in Benoni, as well as with the SuperSport United FC Academy, received a fantastic opportunity to do some training in England during the December school holidays for the Manchester United Academy and Manchester City.

“So, Cam was supposed to be over there now with them. While training there last year December, Camden did so well he was invited back to train at Manchester United for six weeks this April 17 until May 26,” explained Jody Schaper, Camden’s dad.

Once the lockdown hit, Camden’s dreams of heading back overseas was put on hold, but his dreams of becoming a professional footballer were not.

“During lockdown, he has been included in some amazing programmes with the Manchester United Academy, he has spoken via video chat to legends such as Ryan Giggs, current players like Marcus Rashford, done some training online with the academy coaches, they have been in contact with Cam since they met him in December,” explained Jody. “He is still looking to go over for six weeks when it’s safe to do so. We haven’t received any dates as yet, but we are sure he will still go over this year,” said Jody.

Camden is not only impressing internationally, but also locally. He is also leading (number one) his local South African programme with Supersport United with the most online points.

“Being number one is a reward for the hours of training I have done during this time, our programme is five to seven sessions a week and I have been doing 21 sessions a week. Seeing my name at number one keeps me motivated to keep working hard to stay there and to keep learning and developing so when I go to the UK I will be more than ready.”
