Executive mayor Mzwandile Masina, along with volunteers from the The City Band handed 200 food parcels to residents in the Actonville flats on June 19.
Masina launched the Food Bank on April 11 to reach out to those who have been hit hard by the lockdown regulations by donating food parcels to them.To date 119 donors have made donations of goods to an estimated value of R903 299 139.

Out of the 47 181 applications received, 2 065 have been disqualified.The following requirements need to be met in order for an applicant to receive a food parcel:
• There should be no one receiving any government grant in the household.
• There should be no one in the household who receives an income or employed by the state or any of the food retail outlets.
If residents meet the following requirement they can call the metro’s food bank call centre on 011 999 5102 or send an application with your details including ID, address, name, surname, contact details and residents need to state whether you reside with children or older persons.
