Grade Seven and 12 learners are pleased to be back at school

The City Times visited the two schools on their first day after the postponement on June 1 and went through a screening process before entering the school.

The Grade Seven learners of Letsha Primary School and the Mabuya Secondary School matriculatants in Daveyton returned to school after more than two months of being away from their desks.

The City Times visited the two schools on their first day after the postponement on June 1 and went through a screening process before entering the school.

Letsha Primary:

The 47 learners were divided into two classes to observe social distancing.

Principal Khosi Mtshweni said the learners do not change classrooms. Instead, their educators changed after every lesson or period.

The learners also receive lunch which is prepared at the school.

“Their desks are marked with their names and surnames so that everyone uses the same desk every day,” said Mtshweni.

The learners are screened twice a day, in the morning and after lunch.

They each have a bar of soup they use when they go to the bathroom and they constantly sanitise their hands.

All learners and teachers wore their masks.

Mabuya Secondary:

Grade 12 teacher Ndumiso Buthelezi said their matriculants were pleased to be back at school as it was a bit of a challenge for some learners to study online as they could not afford data.

The school has 187 matriculants, who have been divided into 20 per class.

Most of the learners returned, only a few are absent, said Buthelezi.

The learners are screened every morning when they enter the school premises and they dont go out of their classrooms as lunch is served at school.
