Farrarmere Square Dis-Chem, Woolworths close their doors amid unconfirmed case of coronavirus at pharmacy

This is a developing story.

The Dis-Chem store at The Square at Farrarmere, on the corner of Kei and Great North roads, closed its doors today, as did the Woolworths store.

Both have put notices up outside the stores, the one on the Woolworths door stating there has been a positive case of Covid-19 at the centre and they are going to take precautions by deep cleaning their store.

Woolworths stated it will reopen tomorrow.

Dis-Chem stated the store is closed until further notice.

The City Times is awaiting an official statement from Dis-Chem.

Spokesperson for the property managers of the shopping centre Chrisann Govender said Dis-Chem “was closed since this morning” but would confirm nothing further.

Residents told the City Times it closed around noon.

A Brentwood Park resident was in Dis-Chem to collect a prescription between 10:30am and 11am today and from there went to a Clicks to get cough mixture Dis-Chem did not have in stock.

“While I was getting the cough medicine I overheard someone telling the dispensary staff to put their masks back on as Dis-Chem was closing due to a positive case of Covid-19,” the shopper said.

Dis-Chem’s store at the Retail Park shopping centre, in Boksburg, has 24 confirmed cases of Covid-19 among their staff and was visited by the Ekurhuleni MMC for Community Safety Frans Mmoko yesterday (Sunday).
