#Lockdown: No fitness worries for WarriorRic’s family

He hasn't given up on his exercise and healthy eating, but admits he has his slack days.

The City Times asked WarriorRic (aka Ricardo Gressel), who is an MC, motivational speaker and facilitator from Atlasville, how things are going for him during lockdown.

“I work from home, so the lockdown has not been unusual for me,” said Gressel.

“It seemingly hasn’t been unusual for my family either – we live in a large house where many generations of family members have made it home over several years.

“So, we have been able to adjust quite easily to this unique era in history within our ample and comfortable space.

“As WarriorRic, you might think that I am in charge at home, but it is actually my wife who holds the rank of sergeant in our house!

“The lockdown schedule from sunrise (literally) to sunset is hers and we must all oblige.

“The schedule includes early morning fitness training, cleaning duties, eating at set meal times and school lessons for our primary school learners.

“My daughter heads that up as she is our very own homeschool teacher who is in her second year at TUKS, studying education.

“The fitness routines we get up to involve running in our yard, with my wife calculating the kilometres on her smart watch.

“We use simple apparatus we borrowed from our personal trainer friend, such as mats, a medicine ball, some light dumbbells and hand pads for boxing.

“Otherwise, I am happy to get in some push-ups, sit-ups, squats and dips (using the arm of a chair).

“The key is to plan a routine and stick to it.

“I must admit the first three days we were on top of it!

“But, recently, there has been some slacking, including from yours truly.

“Just because the world may seem to be in chaos, we still find harmony in reiterating positive vibrations in the house.

“Interestingly enough, there has been a lot less fighting and a lot more of us getting along.

“Maybe it’s because we don’t see this time as a ‘lockdown,’ but more as an opportunity to share the good and hard work of wellness, living together as a family.”
