“While they were driving in Mogoba near the Mhlongo store, they were blocked by a silver VW Polo with four occupants who came out and accosted them, pointing firearms at them,” said Ubisi.

“They then fired shots in the air and one shot the truck’s front tyre. The robbers then broke the driver’s window and demanded money.”

Ubisi said as the alleged suspects sped off, one of the victims phoned his father, who is the owner of the truck and explained to him what happened.

“His father responded quickly in search of the suspects, he came across the vehicle fitting the description given to him and bumped it with his car.

“The suspects ran on foot, leaving the vehicle behind. With the help of the community, two of the men were caught.”

Ubisi added the police were immediately summoned to the scene and they reacted swiftly and arrested the two men.

The robbers took an undisclosed amount of money, a firearm with no rounds, two pairs of hand gloves and two number plates were found inside the vehicle.

The two men were detained and police are searching for the other two accomplices.

Station commander Lt Col Wellington Mathiane extended his word of appreciation to the community members for the role they played in arresting the suspects.
