Help find an 11-days-old baby kidnapped by bogus employer

A case of kidnapping was opened at the Benoni SAPS and police are investigating.

The Benoni Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offence Unit (FCS) has launched a manhunt after an 11-days- old baby girl was kidnapped from her mother on February 22 at Lakeside Mall at around 2pm.

Spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele said it is alleged that the 39-year-old mother met a woman who identified herself as Katlego at a local clinic in Benoni and promised her a job.

“On Saturday, the mother received a call from someone who alleged that she was an employer from a certain company, offering her a job and that she must meet them at the mall with Katlego,” said Sekele.

“The woman met with Katlego at the mall and they waited for the employer at one of the food outlets.”

Sekele said as they were waiting, Katlego gave the mother money to go and buy something to eat at one of the stores.
