Domestic worker tied up during house robbery in Northmead

A case of house robbery was opened at the Benoni Police Station.

The Benoni police are urging homeowners to educate their domestic workers and gardeners to inform them of unknown people wanting to gain entry to the property, and to confirm their claims with their employers before granting the strangers access.

This comes after a domestic worker was tied up during a house robbery on February 17 in Northmead around 9.30am.

Spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele said the domestic worker alleges that she was inside the house when a white bakkie parked at the gate with four occupants inside.

“The occupants asked her to open for them as they were there to fix the ceiling and she opened for them without asking her employer first,” said Sekele.

“The four men tied her up in one of the rooms.”

They fled with a plasma TV, PlayStation, three laptops, four hard drives, a cellphone and house keys.

A case of house robbery was opened at the Benoni Police Station.

Sekele added that when employing domestic workers and gardeners, homeowners must profile them or bring them to the police station so they can do a background check.
