East Rand Youth Orchestra performs a Christmas concert

Traditional pieces, including Oh Come, All Ye Faithful and Silent Night, were among the songs performed.

The East Rand Youth Orchestra (ERYO) Christmas Celebration Concert was held recently at St Dunstan’s College.

Consisting of 36 members, the orchestra, with members aged between 10 and 24 and under the conductorship of Pienaar Fourie, performed Christmas carols that hit the right notes in the hearts of the audience.

Instruments such as the violin, cello, double bass, trumpets and percussion, including bells created a symphony that was well executed after six weeks of preparation.

The Junior Primary Choir of St Dunstan’s College, comprising Grade Two and Three learners, accompanied the orchestra onstage at the concert.

Performing around nine to 10 concerts a year, the ERYO aims to bring beautiful music to people in the East Rand and is recruiting musicians.

Conductor Pienaar Fourie (left), Christine Braun and Gottfried Schiele were ready to welcome guests to a sensational Christmas concert.

Instruments are made available to ERYO members who may not be able to afford them and St Dunstan’s College is used as a practice hub by the orchestra.

No auditions to join are necessary, but members need to know how to play instruments.
