Actonville Child and Family Welfare holds its 31st AGM

The ACFWS is responsible for providing social work to families in Actonville, Mackenzie Park, Wattville (and surrounding areas), Kingsway and Lindelani.

The Actonville Child and Family Welfare Society (ACFWS) held its 31st annual general meeting (AGM) at the Actonville Library recently.

At the AGM, it was discussed that their financials showed a higher deficit incurred by the society at minus R215 041, in comparison to the previous year’s R60 188 deficit.

Mohomed Hoosien Sirkhot, ACFWS chairman, said the when it comes to the day-to-day runnings of the society, they are faced with similar challenges as other societies namely, funding, administration cost, insurance cost, telephone cost, petrol, vehicle maintenance and office consumables.

“The ever-rising cost of these commodities has put a strain on the society’s resources,” said Sirkhot.

“To sustain the smooth running of this society, an ongoing fund-raising plan has to be established.”

Sirkhot mentioned that one of their vehicles was recently involved in an accident and was written off; however, another vehicle has been purchased.

“The Kingsway office is still a problem; attempts to find suitable premises were unsuccessful,” he said.

The office is a container located at Kingsway Intermediate School.

One of the highlights for the society for the year was their banquet, which was a successfully organised fund-raiser.

The chairman applauded the members for their teamwork and sterling performance.

He added that another highlight was their first networking meeting, which he thanked Pooja Solanki who spearheaded the project. They hoped to expand on it soon.

“I hope and pray that the coming year will see more people joining our organisation, especially young people to come on board and take this society further,” said Sirkhot.

Sirkhot thanked the staff for always meeting deadlines and for ensuring that the organisation runs well. He also thanked their donors and sponsors for their generosity.

A special thanks was given to Goolam Laher who has served the organisation for decades; he has resigned due to ill health.
