Theft and illegal foreigner
Mozambican national Eric Vusi Mthembu (42) received six years’ imprisonment for theft of a motor vehicle and two years’ imprisonment for being an illegal foreigner who is in the Republic in contravention of the immigration act. Mthembu was sentenced on October 13 by magistrate Mitzi Schutte.
Possession of firearm and ammunition
24-year-old Frankie Lepetekwi was charged with possession of a prohibited firearm (serial number/identifying mark altered without permission of the registrar) and possession of ammunition. Lepetekwi pleaded not guilty to both charges. He was found guilty by magistrate Mitzi Schutte on October 14 and sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment for the first count and 12 months’ imprisonment for the second count.
Illegal foreigner
Joao Jose Xerindza (34) was convicted of one count of tampering with an ID document and presenting the false ID document and a second count of being an illegal foreigner who is in the Republic in contravention of the immigration act. The Mozambican was sentenced by magistrate Ian Cox to two years’ imprisonment for the first count and 12 months for the second count on October 16.
