Ntokozo Dube wins R150 000 worth of prizes at all white gospel talent search

Daveyton resident Ntokozo Dube (25) won the annual All White Gospel Picnic talent search, with her angelic voice.

The soft-spoken rising star has won studio recording time, a music video and mentorship from industry leaders to the value of R150 000.

The judges had a tough time deciding on the winner, as all contestants brought their A-game and sang their hearts out.

Ntokozo said: “I believe this was God’s perfect plan, I am glad I took a chance and auditioned.

“I did not expect to win, but I trusted God to see me through and I gave it my all on stage.”

The competition is aimed at unearthing raw talent from townships with an aim to afford the winner an opportunity to record a gospel song, shoot a music video and get to share a stage with the gospel industry’s top acts.

Ntokozo will make a grand appearance and perform her debut single during this year’s edition of the annual All White Gospel Picnic set to take place on November 2 at Carnival City.

Head of for the Arts and Culture Division at the City of Ekurhuleni Nontuthuzelo Siphambo said the metro is committed to empowering young people in everything they believe they are good at, in all aspects that include artistically, professionally or economically.

The gospel talent search is aimed at empowering youth who are talented musically by providing them with a platform to display their skills.

ANC launces new website

The African National Congress (ANC) caucus in Ekurhuleni encourages residents to make use of their website, which launched on October 1.

The website will assist the community to get first-hand information on government service delivery updates, including various navigating tools with unique features, such as newsletter subscription for regular updates.

The ANC caucus website also promises to be exciting, interactive, innovative and fresh, incorporating various ways of information dissemination and access.

ANC Chief Whip Jongizizwe Dlabathi said: “The increasingly rapid uptake of social media by many of our citizens, especially the youth, and its increased primacy as a platform of choice for accessing and disseminating information.

“Social media use is fast surpassing traditional media consumption in some countries around the world.

“We, therefore, strongly believe this platform will be helpful to most residents of Ekurhuleni.”

The website was launched for coherent and effective communication to ensure accountability on service delivery performance, and to articulate government programme.

Sizwe Kkhoza bags R100 000 prize at Thami Mnyele Fine Arts Awards

Sizwe Khoza’s artwork beat over 368 entries submitted for this year’s edition of the annual national Thami Mnyele Fine Arts Awards.

He took the trophy, a certificate and the converted prize of R100 000.

Thami Mnyele Fine Arts Awards is a contemporary fine art competition that caters for artists of all ages, producing various media of artworks.

Khoza’s art piece, “Hold your head as high as you can”, depicts the challenges of a young man who has to assume a position of being an adult at an early age due to a difficult situation in his household.

Khoza uses lino/monotype and etching print as a medium to tell his story.

“I was going through a lot in my life when I started working on this art piece.

“I believed that this work is different, even the effort I invested on it was multiplied because I believed in it and I hoped that even if I couldn’t win the actual prize with it, it should at least bring hope to someone who would read the story that inspired the painting,” said Khoza.

The prize money totalled R300 000. Other prize winners were: Charles Mamerobela from Alberton (Ekurhuleni Prize) for a work titled “Power Struggle”, the prize was R65 000; and Oliver Mayhew (Lizamore and Associates Solo Exhibition & Mentorship Prize), the prize includes a six-month mentorship programme, which will result in the selected artist having a solo show at the gallery.
