EKF chairperson to take region forward

In summarising his mission statement, Chaniotakos said: "We will strive to put good, strong roots and pillars in place and put our athletes first. Our vision is to be the strongest region in Gauteng, nurturing strong competitors and being placed in the top 10 in our country.

Local sensei Takis Chaniotakos is hoping to lead the Ekurhuleni Karate Federation (EKF) forward into a new era, following his recent appointment as the organisation’s chairperson.

The EKF region is part of the broader Gauteng region and affiliated to Sascoc and Karate South Africa, boasting a long list of talented competitors in all age groups.

Sixth-Dan Chaniotakos, a veteran of both karate and all-styles, took over the reins from long-time chairperson sensei Stef Biagioni. With regional boundaries now in place, EKF represents clubs and instructors in the Ekurhuleni district and currently has 12 local clubs affiliated to the organisation.

“The EKF also has a very strong development programme in place to help those who are passionate about the sport, yet cannot afford it,” added Chaniotakos.

Chaniotakos is also one of the senior instructors of NWS Shotokan Karate in South Africa.
