Man dead, woman rushed to hospital after being found shot in local hotel room

A case of attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition and an inquest was opened at the Benoni Police Station this morning (September 8) after two people were found at a local hotel room in a pool of blood.
“Today at about 11.30am Benoni SAPS officers were summoned to a scene in a local hotel where two people were found with gunshot wounds,” said Benoni SAPS spokesperson, Captain Nomsa Sekele.

“It is alleged that one employee of the hotel went to knock in the room where the man and woman booked in last night (September 7) at 10pm, only to hear a cry for help.
“He quickly opened the door and found the couple lying in a pool of blood on the floor, and realised that it was the woman crying out, he then ran to seek help.”
Sekele said paramedics were called and upon arrival both people had sustained gunshot wounds on their upper bodies.
“The man was certified dead while the woman was rushed to hospital,” she said.
“The firearm used was found on the scene with the serial numbers filed off.”
