Sibikwa Arts Centre host event just for women

During the lunch break, the ladies were pampered with free hand and neck massages and further beauty tips.

Sibikwa Arts Centre hosted Seriti sa Basadi on August 25, which brought 150 women of all ages and walks of life together to celebrate their womanhood through dance, storytelling, motivational talks and various health and wellness demonstrations.

Former Sibikwa board member and actress Connie Chiume welcomed everyone and set a warm tone for the day.

She was followed by Zoleka Mcira from the Ekurhuleni Firefighting Department in Benoni, who shared home safety tips.

Bongiwe Ngidi was the MC for the morning session, who introduced Shokie from Shokie’s Beauty Salon in Rynfield, as the focus was on women’s well-being.

She gave a demonstration on how to apply make-up.

A talk on healthy eating was presented by Herbalife representatives and an energised Zumba demonstration had all the women in the audience moving to the beat.

The morning session ended with bestselling author Jackie Phamotse recounting her life story, which brought many women in the audience to tears.

The afternoon programme focused on theatre performances.

The audience was led into the theatre with an evocative dance piece in the foyer by Joint Minds.

Well-known radio presenter Khanyi Magubane took over as the MC for the afternoon.

Young dancers from P&P Dance Rhythms performed a dynamic hip-hop dance, followed by the smooth jazz sounds of award-winning singer and guitarist Zoë Modiga.

Faith Busika shared a story in Sotho, while Stella Dlangalala had a comedy set in Zulu, which had the ladies laughing.

Thought-provoking poetry was performed by Wazi Kunene and the explosive sound of Saxy Sthe singing popular songs evoked the audience to spontaneously sing along and join her on stage to dance with her.

The day concluded with a surprise item by the all-male SkotsiFontain dance group, who presented a Chippendale-type dance routine.

All women who were present experienced an incredible day of tears, laughter, joy and pride in being women.
