Benoni SAPS sector managers arrested a 46-year-old suspect in Western Extension recently after discovering he was in possession of different kinds of ammunition, as well as a home-made firearm.
This was confirmed by Benoni SAPS spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele.
“Members were on their daily duties, patrolling their respective sectors when they spotted a suspicious-looking man inside a property in Western Extension,” said Sekele.

“They stopped to ask the man what he was doing and he could not give a proper explanation.
“He was then asked to open the garage and there was a locked steel cabinet inside.
“Since the suspect was behaving suspiciously, members asked to search the cabinet. They found different calibre ammunition and a home-made firearm.
“Members immediately arrested the suspect and detained him at the Benoni Police Station.”
Sekele said an investigation is ongoing.
