EMPD arrests one for possession of drugs

The arrested 29-year-old male was detained at Benoni police station on charges of possession and dealing in narcotics.

In New Modder, dagga with an estimated value of R75 000 was seized and a suspect arrested by the EMPD recently.

“The cooperation by the community members with regards to reporting drug dealers yielded one suspect found in possession of dagga weighing 5kg and one suspect was arrested around 2pm,” said EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago.

“The arrest and seizure of the dagga happened on Telmond Street.

Kgasago said the 29-year-old arrestee was detained at the Benoni Police Station, where a case of possession and dealing in dagga was registered.

• An alleged khat dealer was arrested on August 5 when he was found in possession of khat at New Modder in Benoni. “The suspect was apprehended following a tip-off from members of the New Modder community,” said Kgasago.

“The EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit responded when information was received and managed to handcuff the suspect found in possession of khat valued at R1 200.

“The arrest took place on Edgar Street.”

The arrested 29-year-old male was detained at Benoni police station on charges of possession and dealing in narcotics. He is expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon.
