Various birthdays celebrated at Village Walk

In a previous article, the manager, Isabella Carstens, said they plan to do the celebrations every three months.

It was a cheerful birthday celebration for those who hit the milestone of 80 years old and older at Village Walk Retirement Estate in Brentwood Park recently.

Thirty residents born between April and June celebrated their birthdays at a special tea party hosted by the village in their honour.

Amid those who hit 80 and over, was 94-year-old Maria Steyn, who was born on June 12, and the oldest to celebrate her birthday.

“I am so grateful to be alive,” she said.

“I live alone, but I was married for 66 years before my husband died three years ago.

“I asked God why do I have to face this life alone and then He told me that many are lonely, but we must keep facing every day, so that is what I do.”

Steyn advised youngsters to be grateful for every blessing, big or small.

“Make use of your talents to the best of your ability.”

Another resident, Sue Jackson, said it is good to be 83 and she is blessed to be healthy.

“My philosophy is to always look for the positive in every situation,” she said.
