SAPS clamps down on illegal mining

Residents are urged to report any crime to the police.

Crystal Park SAPS, along with different role players within the cluster (SAPS and EMPD), conducted an operation targeting illegal mining on June 11 at the N12 informal settlement from 5.30am.

Six illegal immigrants, one dealing in dagga, were arrested. illegal mining equipment, dagga and alcohol were confiscated and illegal shebeens were closed down during Operation Fiela.

The operation was headed by deputy district commissioner Brig Elizabeth Mphuthi.

Spokesperson Sgt Lerato Mopeli said the operation was successful as it left the community feeling safe and restored their confidence in the SAPS.

“The community was very pleased with all the police presence and visibility in the area,” said Mopeli.

Station commander Lt Col Belinda Motaung assured the community members that their safety comes first.

Residents are urged to report any crime to the police.
