Czech boxer lands love punch

He may have lost the fight, but Ducar most certainly scored the biggest knockout of the evening.

Czech cruiserweight boxer Vasil Ducar caught everyone, including SuperSport boxing analyst Brian Mitchell, by surprise at Emperors Palace this past weekend.

Challenger Ducar, who had just lost a unanimous points decision to South Africa’s IBO world champion Kevin Lerena in the headline bout of the six-fight Golden Gloves’ ‘KO Kings’ tournament at the popular gaming resort, suddenly went down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend Irena Vojackova on live television while Mitchell was still in mid-sentence.

Lerena (23-1) successfully defended his IBO world cruiserweight title belt by outpointing the Czech challenger 120-108, 119-109 and 117-111 on the three judges’ scorecards.

Caught totally off-guard, at the spur of the moment, Mitchell could only utter “She said yes!”
