Children of Kids Haven have a fun-filled day

The fun activities comprised of jump rope skipping, running and soccer.

Vosloorus resident Lerato Makgaleng recently visited Kids Haven in Mackenzie Park for a day packed with fun activities and treats for the children at the home.

The children enjoyed a day that saw them receive snacks, fruits, sandwiches, beverages, toiletries that included petroleum jelly and bath soaps as well as vegetables that would be used at a later stage in the home.

The day was self-funded by Lerato.

“After my parents died some years ago, I decided I wanted to do charity work within my community,” explained Lerato.

“This year I chose Kids Haven as my choice of charity and plan on reaching more organisations throughout Ekurhuleni.

“I want to get children more involved in sports and other programmes that will encourage them from a young age and for that reason I recently registered an organisation called Little Feet Big Steppers in the hopes we’ll be able to accomplish this.

“Of course such a development requires funding.

“I want to empower children in Ekurhuleni.

“I have a passion to help people and I want others who share this passion to join me in bringing a new hope to the youth we need it most.

“It’s not about what you have that matters but how much of it you can share with others.

“Being her today, with my son and loved ones, is such a learning experience and makes us appreciate what we have even more.”

Fikile Manana, who is a child and youth care worker at Kids Haven, said the event greatly benefited the children.

“It’s good to see the children socialising,” she said.

“Our relationship with the children is structured and professional.

“With events like this they get to interact with people outside of the home.

“Our main goal is to get them back into society and today we are able to see if elements of what we teach them (communication skills and relationship building) are practiced.

“We are very happy with today as the children received well balanced meals and got to mingle and play with others.”
