BMW facelifts the X1
On the front of the X1, BMW increased the size of the kidney grille which merges in the middle. The headlights also come in sharper form while the front bumper received larger air intakes and integral LED fog lamps.
The driver side mirror sees the addition of a two-tone LED light that projects the X1 logo on the floor while entering or exiting the car. At the rear, the new apron will come in body colour with a High-gloss black option on Sport Line derivatives. LED rear lights will come as optional while the 90 mm exhaust tips, increased from 70 mm, come as standard.
A combination of cloth and Sensatec materials is used for the seats on standard and Sport Line derivatives with orange stitching available as an option on the latter. The X1 M Sport will come standard with black Hexagon fabric and Sensatec upholstery and M piping. M safety belts are an option on M Sport models.
Able to fold down in a 40:20:40 combination, the rear seats, can be adjusted forwards and back by 13 cm while the backrest has six stages of adjustment. With the seats folded down, the boot capacity increases from 505 – 1,550-litres and can be accessed hands-free with the optional Comfort Access specification.
The interior comes standard with an infotainment system featuring Apple CarPlay and a 6.5-inch centrally positioned display while the options list includes an 8.8-inch or the new 10.25-inch Touch Control Display when the navigation system is selected. Selecting the navigation system will also increase the standard 2.7-inch TFT Info Display fitted in the instrument cluster to 5.7-inches. Voice control and the full-colour Head-up Display are optional for the sixth generation iDrive system.
Fitted with 17-inch wheels as standard, 18-inch, and 19-inch light-alloy options will be fitted to xLine and M Sport derivatives. It is yet to be confirmed which derivatives will come to South Africa but European options for motivation includes the entry-level, sDrive16d which comes in form of a diesel powered, three-cylinder, 1.5-litre, turbocharged engine with variable inlet geometry producing 85 kW and 270 N.m of torque coupled to either a six-speed manual or seven-speed Steptronic dual-clutch transmission.
The xDrive25d (diesel) and xDrive25i (petrol) come with a four-cylinder, 2-litre turbocharged engine with variable inlet geometry with both increasing performance to 170 kW and 450 N.m of torque. The German automaker will also introduce a plug-in hybrid derivative in March 2020. The xDrive25e will be able to cover over 50 km on electric power alone. The turbocharged powertrain driving the front wheels will produce, 92 kW and 220 Nm of torque while the electric drive system driving the rear wheels produce 70 kW and 165 Nm of torque. Local pricing is yet to be confirmed.
