Etwatwa SAPS shares crime trends

The station commander reiterated that his door is always open for community members to come and share their concerns or information.

The Etwatwa SAPS station commander Col Molatelo Maoto said women alone at home are being targeted by robbers who then steal flat screen televisions and electrical appliances.

“It is important for residents not to grant strangers access to the premises before confirming who they are,” said Maoto.

The station is also appealing to the community to work with them to curb drugs in schools and in the area as a whole as this trend often leads to gangsterism.

Maoto said schools are mostly affected by drugs and children are being led astray as a result.

“The community must take a stand and share any information they have about drug dealers,” he said.

The police also face a challenge with illegal liquor outlets which don’t comply with the regulations of the Liquor Act.

“Alcohol abuse leads to domestic violence – in many cases a man will have been at a shebeen or tavern and when he gets home he assaults his partner,” he said.

“There will be no mercy for domestic violence perpetrators and no case will be withdrawn from the police station.”

Maoto said whether you’re male or female it is important to report domestic violence.

“We are here to guide the complaint through the process once the case has been opened.

“We also encourage shebeen and tavern owners who know of those who are not obeying the rules of the Liquor Act to come forward with information,” he said.

“The station will be conducting intense operations to deal will crimes involving counterfeit goods and drugs.”

The station commander is also appealing to parents to always know where their children are as it is now the time that people are recruiting young boys to initiation schools.

“If you have information about such people, report this to the police.

“We will open a case of abduction in instances where children have reported to us they have been forced to attend these camps,” he said.

Maoto reiterated that his door is always open for community members to come and share their concerns or information.
