Two winning Merlin League starts for Benoni Northerns rugby sides

A great start for the Northerns men.

Benoni Northerns Rugby Club (BNRC) is flying high after two winning game weeks in the Valke Rugby Union’s 2019 Merlin League.

The club hosted three games on April 27 at Northern Areas, including a friendly women’s match between their women’s team and Boksburg Rugby Club and their u-21s and first side running out against the Vaal University of Technology (VUT).

In the first game of the day, the u-21 side romped to a smashing 57-3 victory over the VUT opponents.

VUT does not have a second team, so the BNRC women played in their time slot, going down 20-0 to Boksburg.

The BNRC first XI had a tough encounter against VUT, but emerged victorious with a score of 36-29.

Both the first and u-21 sides have won successive games in the league and are looking good with a strong season after a disappointing 2018 campaign.

The second XV got the points for a victory and are also undefeated in two league matches.

The BNRC teams will take on their neighbours, Kempton Wolwe, away from home on May 3.
