Teen funds the publishing of his own book

He has sold over 3 000 copies so far and hopes to reach a million.

Daveyton resident Lesego Makhwenkwe (19) is a busy teen who is completing his studies in law and just published his first book entitled The Dream and is in the process of writing his second one.

The book is a fictional novel about a lawyer in South Africa who has a gangster best friend who has always protected the lawyer.

In the book, they face a big challenge when a man in the lawyer’s dream kills him and later comes to life with the same intention.

“The man in a black hat and coat starts killing people in the lawyer’s life, threatens his family and traumatises him,” Lesego said.

“Whether it is for fun, or it is an order from someone else to kill the innocent lawyer is something the reader has to find out.”

The 73-pager is filled with action, drama, mystery and a pinch of horror.

The youngster said as a Unisa student, he had some free time on his hands and always wanted to write a book.

“When I started thinking and writing, it became a joyride. I loved and enjoyed every minute of it,” he said.

Lesego said he was so passionate about completing the book that he finished writing it in a matter of 10 to 12 days.

The book was published and is available on Amazon and he has sold hard copies by himself, with the help of his mother, as he did not have the funds to go through a publisher.

“The backdrop might be that it’s not in bookshops, but people who are aware of the book have supported me and word of mouth has been going good,” he added.

“I have another one finished, but I will release it after my exams. It is called Prisoner.”
