New commander at Benoni Police Station

The Kempton Park resident has 36 years of service under his belt and is not new to leadership roles.

The Benoni Police Station recently welcomed a new station commander, Brig Ntakuseni Lukhwareni.

Lukhwareni, who took up office on April 1, took over from Col Ronald Mkhonza, who will revert back to the position of detective commander at the station.

The Kempton Park resident has 36 years of service under his belt and is not new to leadership roles.

Before his appointment, he was the Johannesburg North deputy cluster commander.

Lukhwareni is hoping to harness the support of the community to fight crime.

“My key focus is to reduce crime in Benoni and improve the partnership with the community, as police cannot combat crime alone,” said Lukhwareni.

“Community involvement is very important.”

He added that this involvement extends to the CPF and every citizen within the community, saying the police “cannot win this battle alone”.

Lukhwareni said he will make sure that the station’s resources are used effectively to benefit the community.

“The resources will be used to identify crime hotspots in the area, analyse the crime patterns and stabilise the crime,” he said.

“I am looking forward to working with the members at the station and the management so we can all work together towards a common goal.

“We will all join hands to make sure that the residents of Benoni are and feel safe all the time.”

He added that his door will always be open for community to come and share their genuine concerns.
