Decade of equestrian excellence to be celebrated at Nissan Easter Festival

Kyalami Equestrian Park will host the country’s premier horse show with world class competition on offer across all disciplines as well as entertainment for the whole family.

Now in its 10th year, the Nissan Easter Festival is an equestrian extravaganza, a calendar highlight that welcomes professional as well as amateur athletes from far and wide including Zimbabwe, Botswana, Swaziland, Zambia and Namibia as they try their hand against South Africa’s best, from April 13 to 22.

The Kyalami Equestrian Park will play host to a series of disciplines including showing, equitation, dressage and show jumping.

Adding to the competition will be a children’s gymkhana, fancy dress and VIP hospitality that’ll no doubt host the who’s who of Joburg.

Everyone is encouraged to come through from April 13 when the show commences with showing, dressage and equitation for a jam-packed three days, or in the days that follow to witness the show jumping ranging from 70cm right through to 1.50m.

“All are welcome and for free,” said show director Heather Mpofu.

“This show really does have something for everyone including the most enjoyable Nissan gymkhana games for the children on Easter Sunday with a visit from the Easter Bunny.

“There’s also the nail-biting Nissan six bar competition where only time will tell if new records will be set this year round.”

The children’s area is free from April 20 to 22 with arts and crafts that’ll keep little creative minds busy for hours.

Nissan will host their test drives with giveaways from April 19 to 22.

One of the most prestigious titles in South African sport to win is that of the Nissan SA Outdoor Grand Prix, which takes place on Easter Monday, April 22 at 2pm.

As per every year, the capacity crowd will be wowed with the world class performances between horse and rider – a display of equestrian excellence that has become synonymous with this festival. Multiple winner of the Grand Prix, Barry Taylor said that anyone can take the title come April 22.

“We are early on in the season and some riders have struck form faster than others meaning that absolutely anyone can win in three weeks’ time.

“The capacity crowds though add a whole new dimension to the grand prix class and it really does come down to the horse and rider combination that can both stay focused and together.”
