The Beautiful Gardens wows for the 21st time

This was the 21st consecutive Beautiful Gardens of Benoni hosted by the Anns and the event raised R50 000

The Members of Benoni Van Ryn Rotary Anns again arranged a beautiful outing for Benoni’s gardening fanatics on January 26 and 27.

This was the 21st consecutive Beautiful Gardens of Benoni hosted by the Anns.

The club supports various organisations including the Benoni SPCA, Meals on Wheels, Salvation Army, iThemba Rape and Trauma Centre and Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital (Breast Cancer Unit) and many other organisations they support throughout the year.

Rotary Ann president and event organiser Judy Bath said the event attracted a lot of people and they even ran out of tickets.

“It was a wonderful event. The weather was perfect and I want to thank all of the participants for getting their gardens in the best condition. This wouldn’t be possible without them,” said Bath.

She also thanked Rotary Anns, Rotary members and friends of the Rotary club for their support.

One of the garden owners, Michelle Rance of the garden in 7 Dobson Street, Rynfield, said her love for gardening came from her father, Cenio Lipparoni.

“Gardening is my hobby, my drug of choice and my sanctuary,” said Rance.

“One doesn’t need a lot of money to have a beautiful garden. I take different flowers from my friends and in that way I get to have a piece of my friends in my garden.”

Attendees asked questions about the various gardens and homeowners were happy to assist.

This year’s participants were Bob and Cecile Heynes, Darryl Botes, Annie van Wyk, Bev Marnewick, Laantie Le Roux, Lyndon Hunt and Lucy Greyvensteyn.
