Getting to know the Scouts

The Scouts South Africa East Rand District offers scouting adventures for children of all ages and interests.

Balancing the stresses of life while trying to be a ‘hands-on’ parent can be challenging, but the Scouts are there to help.

The scout movement is a voluntary, educational movement that instils values such as honour, helpfulness, loyalty and respect for the environment in young people.

Mike Weeks District Commissioner for the East Rand scouts said: “Cubs and Scouts give children between the ages of seven and 18 an opportunity to learn life skills, leadership, self-confidence and responsibility.

“It also gives them outdoor know-how, away from shopping malls, game arcades, computers and cellphones.

“This is achieved by the children working together in small groups of six or eight.

“Normally older children lead the groups, and the younger children learn from the leaders through hands-on activities.”
