Society threatened by drug dealers

'This operation takes place in full view, 24-hours a day, and, in the presence of children.'

Anonymous writes:

There are two males, both foreign nationals, who are selling drugs from a house on Patel Street in Actonville.

This has been going on since 2012 and reporting the matter to the police and relevant authorities have not yielded any results.

Men and women are flocking there in numbers especially those who are involved in recycling and car guarding.

Their operation also affects the lives of the children as they witness this behaviour daily.

Some of the children sometimes ask for money from the people coming to buy the drugs and you can see that they admire the drug dealers because money and drugs are exchanged in full view.

The first time this was reported was in April 2012 and still, nothing has been done and no-one seems to be willing to address the problem.

The local councillor was also made aware of this in September 2018.

Small quantities of contraband are also distributed from a dilapidated house also in the same street.

The situation is worse during weekends and there is no way the local police can claim not knowing anything about what is happening in that house or the street.

You are my hope, perhaps your publication can do something about this and put pressure on the authorities to act.

Editor’s note: The City Times contacted Ward 29 Clr Haseena Ismail regarding the complaint. According to Ismail, hundreds of drug lords operate in the Actonville area and use houses as a drug den. She stated involving authorities such as EMPD and SAPS is the only way to go forward when dealing with social ills on such a large scale.
