Benoni Northerns munch KwaThema before lunch

Northerns reclaim their winning ways.

Following a shock defeat to Boksburg Cricket Club in their last match of 2018, Benoni Northerns Cricket Club’s (BNCC) Premier League XI returned to winning ways in their first clash of 2019 with a demolition job of KwaThema at home on January 13.

The team extended their lead atop the league table with a bonus point, eight-wicket win over KwaThema in an encounter that was a done deal before lunch was even served.

BNCC’s longstanding skipper Kurt Francis won the morning coin toss and elected to bowl first.

The move was a good one as his bowlers ran rampant, wrapping up their guest for a paltry 66 runs in 20 overs.

Stefano di Bartolomeo was the pick of the Northerns bowlers, bagging figures of 4/19 in three overs while Lance Humphrey, Phumelelo Masetlane and Stefan Jordaan claimed a brace of wickets apiece.

In their reply, BNCC lost two top order batsmen but managed to reach the score in 8.1 overs.

Opener Kyle McClean finally found some rhythm in the Premier League side with a well-played 42 not out from 30 deliveries to steer his home over the finish line before lunch.

Northerns will host Duduza at Northern Areas on January 20.

The first ball is scheduled to be bowled at 10am.
