Daveyton rapper creates awareness on albinism

The album will be released later this year.

Rapper and songwriter Anele Mayekiso, better known as Symmetry, aims to raise awareness about albinism with his latest single, No to Albinism.

The single was released in November and will be available on digital platforms by the end of January.

He is currently working on his album which will be released later this year.

Symmetry said he wrote the song because of the violence and abuse against people with albinism in their communities.

“There are a lot of myths associated with albinism which can be misleading and can have a negative influence on the lives of people with the condition, as well as their families, so I saw the need to educate the public through this song,” said Symmetry.

The 35-year-old artist said he has been creating music from a young age and nurtured his talent by getting involved in community activities, such as singing and dancing.

He was first introduced to the music industry at the age of 18 when he matriculated.

Symmetry said it has taken him a couple of years to make the album due to time constraints as he has to provide for his family and due to a lack of funding.

However, he hasn’t given up on his passion.

The youngster said his music is influenced by Skwatta Kamp, ProVerb, Wu tang Clan, the late ProKid and HHP.

The Daveyton resident has big dreams but also faces challenges, especially being recognised in the music industry.

“I have found it difficult to break into the industry but with the passion and drive that I have I believe my time to shine will come,” he said.

The upcoming rapper said his music is based on everyday life experiences that people can relate to and be inspired to be the best they can be.
