Eight nabbed for reckless driving

The EMPD will remain on high alert.

The EMPD High Speed Unit members arrested eight motorists at different locations with different speed limits in Benoni and Brakpan recently.

“The operations were conducted between 5am and 6am – the locations targeted are notorious for excessive speeding,” said EMPD spokesperson, Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago.

“A male taxi driver (50) was arrested on Princes Avenue on this 60km/h zone stretch of road doing 96km/h.”

“On R23 in Brakpan, four drivers were locked up after registering speeds of 115, 121, 122 and 126km/h in the 80km/h zone,” Kgasago explained.

All eight drivers were charged with reckless and negligent driving and are expected to appear in the respective magistrate’s courts soon.

“They were all released after posting bail of R1 000 each,” he said.
