School in spotlight over learner’s beard

The City Times contacted the Benoni Ashton International College requesting their code of conduct. The school responded as follows: “Our code of conduct is a contractual document between the parents and the college.”

In an incident reported on a talk radio show on Tuesday (October 23), a Muslim learner at an Ashton International College was allegedly ordered to shave off his beard, despite the beard being part of his religious belief.

The City Times contacted the Benoni Ashton International College for further comment regarding the news report.

“Any prospective parents are informed that we are a private independent Christian school.

“They accept, sign and agree to our school ethos and code of conduct voluntarily before their child is registered.
