This promises to be a community event of note.
The ever-festive community sporting event that is the Rowlin National Brokers Glow Run is returning to Benoni’s streets on the night of October 31.
This year’s version of the Rowlin Glow Run is an extra special one for both the organisers, Benoni Northerns Athletic Club (BNAC), and the title sponsors, Rowlin National Brokers.
The former has been arranging the night race for a decade while the latter have been proud sponsors of the event for the same time period.
“We can’t believe the time has gone so fast,” said Brenda Reeve, director at Rowlin National Brokers.
“I can still remember setting up at the first race where we lit up the streets with Christmas lights. We have come quite far since then and we like to call it the ‘Rowlin Glow Run’ now.
“It has been very successful in brightening up the streets of Benoni.”
Janine Fell of Rowlin National Brokers said they are looking for as many people as possible to come through and run the 5km fun run, 10km or 15km races.
“It is going to be a lot of fun,” she said.
Jan Jordaan, race organiser from BNAC, said this year’s run feels like getting a permanent Comrades Green Number (for completing 10 Comrades Marathons).
Although the weather has been a challenge in the past, Reeve said the show will always go on in the name of fun.
She added there will be plenty of spot prizes to be won at this year’s event, including a prize for the best-dressed runner.
Fitness fiends can also earn Discovery Vitality fitness points upon completing the race.
Jordaan added the routes are fairly flat and the perfect opportunity for the competitive runner to smash a personal best time.
The Rowlin Glow Run will start at 7pm with the 5km starting 10 minutes later.
Pre-entries can be done at www.enteronline.co.za until October 24.
Race day entries will be taken at the start at Benoni Northerns Sports Club from 5pm.
