WATCH: Northmead water pressure down due to burst pipe in 14th Avenue

The EMM is aware of the burst pipe on 14th Avenue.

Water pressure is low in the Northmead area due to a pipe that burst near the corner of Sixth Street and 14th Avenue during the early hours of this morning (August 16).

“I arrived at work at around 7.45am and saw a vehicle stuck where the pavement had broke above the site of the burst pipe,” said Reinier Meyer, owner of a business in 14th Avenue.

“We helped the driver and then I called Vumatel for assistance as the water was flowing onto the road.”

Travis Mason, a representative of fibre company Vumatel, then made contact with the metro.

A resident told the City Times on the scene that they’d reported the situation at around 4am.

“I contacted the metro at about 8.30am,” Mason said, adding that Vumatel was not responsible for the burst pipe.

“Metro workers arrived on the scene after 9am and closed the water valves,” Mason explained.

After closing the valves, Meyer and Mason said the workers left, saying someone else will fix the problem. No other workers had arrived by 11am.

The City Times is awaiting an official response from the metro.
