Local charities in need of donations

Charities need the community's help

The community is encouraged to continue to help these Benoni charities with ongoing donations of essential items to help them serve the underprivileged:

• Children’s Hope Foundation (Outreach in Benoni and Boksburg):

Clothing, blankets and non-perishable foods. Contact: Sally Comins on 078 781 0812.

• Project Feed the Children (Cloverdene and Emaphupheni campuses):

Canned food, mielie meal, rice, cooking oil and sugar. Contact: Dumisani Madi on 071 307 9109 or 076 742 7109.

• iThemba Trauma Rape and Support Centre (Benoni):

Canned foods, clothing, blankets and toiletries. Contact: Makobedi Mofokeng on 011 422 4107.

• Benoni SPCA (Lakefield):

Cleaning utensils, paint, garden equipment, canned animal food and building necessities. Contact 011 894 2814.

• Friends of Martin de Porres (Etwatwa):

Blankets, mielie meal and Sunlight soap. Contact: Marilyn Smith on 082 804 2627.

• Home Start (Western Extension):

Non-perishable foods, blankets, jerseys, beanies and gloves. Contact: Dee Carton-Barber on 011 845 1116 or 082 571 5619.

• The Almond Tree Baby Home (Northmead):

Baby formula, wet wipes, baby shampoo, nappies, petroleum jelly, baby bouncy chairs, mielie meal, rice, canned foods and braai packs. Contact: Zina Rotherham on 065 300 2601.

• Benoni Van Rhyn Lions Club (Benoni):

Blankets for children from child-headed households. Contact: Vivien Hassett on 072 347 4874.

• Oliver’s Village (Putfontein):

Non-perishable foods, clothes beanies, gloves and blankets. Contact: Lola Wortley on 011 748 6500.

• Kids Haven (Benoni)

Mielie meal, fruits, vegetables, cleaning supplies, toiletries, clothes and mattresses. 011 706 7959 or 083 442 7717.

• Western Extension Community Association (Western Extension):

Non-perishable food, blankets, clothes, shoes, asthma pumps and surgical gloves. Contact: Julie Venner on 082 497 1997.

• Life Choices Pregnancy Crisis Centre (Northmead):

Moms: Bath soaps, body lotions, roll-on, toothpaste and sanitary towels.

Babies: Baby soap, petroleum jelly, bum cream, nappy wipes, 6-12 months girls and boys clothes, summer and winter blankets, bibs, hats, socks, baby shoes (up until size four), prams, camping cots and baby toys (up until one year). Contact: Lauren Jee on 074 953 9106.

• Meals on Wheels Community Services South Africa (Rynfield)

Fruits, vegetables and non-perishable items. Contact 011 849 1811.

• Farrarmere Gardens Nursery Centre

Container to use as a classroom, non-perishable foods, fruits, vegetables, mattresses, blankets, stationery and cleaning supplies. Contact: Anna Khaba on 079 790 5793.

• Salvation Army Benoni

Soup ingredients (mainly vegetables and soup bones), bread/bread rolls, non-perishable and perishable foods, soy products, spreads for bread, toiletries. Contact 011 422 4418.
