Women celebrated their day in a fashionable manner in Actonville

A day to pamper the ladies.

Women’s Day was celebrated with laughter, joy and relaxation for Ward 29 as the councillor, Haseena Ismail treated the women to a pamper session in the Actonville Community Centre.

The day (August 9) commenced with a walk from Birmingham Street to the centre – a march against femicide, fashion shows, entertainment, massages, make-up, motivational speakers, hair styling, medical testing, and health advice from Herbalife, cancer awareness, gifts and lunch for the women.

“What makes a woman? A woman is the person who smiles when she wants to scream, we sing when we want to cry, we cry when we are happy and laugh when we are nervous, we fight for what we believe in and we stand up for injustice,” said Ismail.

“We don’t take no for an answer when we believe there is a better solution. We go without shoes so our children can have shoes. We go to the doctor with a frightened friend. A woman loves unconditionally. We cry when our children excel and cheer when our friends get awards.”

Ismail continued with her heartwarming speech saying the heart of a woman is what makes the world spin.

“Women do more than just give birth. They bring joy and hope. They give moral support to family and friends. Women have a lot to say and a lot to give. They are the heartbeat of every home.”

She also touched on the significance of the day.

“As we celebrate this Women’s Day, let us not forget the scourge of violence against women that has engulfed our country,” she said.

“Unfortunately, we also have in our midst women that suffer alone. Women are abused. Some turn to prostitution because they have no alternative to earning a living. Some bear the pain and suffering of depression for various reasons.”

DA MPL, Michele Clarke also attended the event to share a few words of wisdom.

“To all the special ladies here, continue doing what you do because we are the strength,” she said.

Mrs Grand SA First Princess, Naazneen Ismail also attended to add some cheer to the event.
