Contestants participate in local dance competition in Benoni Town

Grooving to the beat and dancing their way to victory

Lakeside Mall hosted the finale of their dance competition.

The competition was launched on June 23, dancers competed in various genres over the course of three weekends (June 23, June 30 and July 7).

Three winners were selected each week. The videos of the different groups were posted on the Lakeside Mall Facebook Page.

People could vote for their favourite group on the page, with the winning group receiving R5 000.

About nine groups competed in the finale and stood the chance of winning R15 000.

The judges were actress Thuso Mbedu and hip-hop dancer and instructor David Morake.

“We are planning to have this annually in Benoni because there is a lot of talent and this is part of the entertainment,” said Precious Ntuli, marketing manager of Lakeside Mall.

“Most of the finalists are youngsters, and this helps them to focus on positive things.”

The Fire Black Horse won the grand prize of R15 000 and the Ratchet Boys won the R5 000 for the most voted group on social media.
