Benoni Northerns nowhere near Nigel at rugby club day

Nigel proved way too powerful again for the Benoni teams.

Benoni Northerns Rugby Club (BNRC) hosted the Valke Rugby Union’s centralised Merlin League Club Day on their fields on July 7.

The club day kicked-off with Nigel Rugby Club’s u-21 in action against a friendly invitational u-21 XV while Sasolburg and Meyerton’s u-21s played on the adjacent field at the same time.

BNRC’s second XV were in against Nigel while Sasolburg entertained Meyerton at the same time.

Benoni’s first XV were looking to avenge heavy defeat sustained in the reverse fixture against Nigel earlier in the season when the two sides clashed while the first sides of Sasolburg and Meyerton collided on the adjacent field at the same time.

Although the club day was a success with regards to hosting, it was perhaps a day to be forgotten for both of BNRC’s teams as they were again dismantled by strong Nigel teams.

Vaughn Gilbert claims the ball in a lineout for Benoni Northerns Rugby Club’s first XV in their heavy Valke Merlin League defeat to Nigel during the club day at Northern Areas on July 7.

In the earlier clash between the second XVs of BNRC and Nigel, it would be the latter who went home smiling after a 55-10 victory.

BNRC’s first side’s desire to turn things around did not go to plan as they failed to stop the charge of a powerful opponent.

Benoni failed to score a single point on the afternoon as Nigel put 65 points past them.

The club will hope for winning results when they travel to Meyerton on July 14 for their next league matches.
