Man injured during CIT robbery

No arrests have been made.

A case of cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery was opened at the Putfontein Police Station following an incident which occurred on May 5 around noon.

Putfontein SAPS spokesperson Const Justice Ramaube said a guard was walking out of one of the stores in Mayfield Square when he was confronted by three armed men who took his pistol and ordered him to drop the money box.

“Two other suspects were hiding behind the cash-in-transit vehicle and they started shooting,” said Ramaube.

“As shots were fired, a 60-year-old male civilian was shot in his upper body and one of the security guards was shot in the right elbow.”

The suspects fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.

No arrests have been made.

Police are appealing to anyone with information that can assist with the investigating to contact the Putfontein Police Station on 011 845 6315 or 0800 10111.
