The case was reported on April 14 following the incident on Tom Jones Street at about 8.30am.

Capt Nomsa Sekele, the Benoni SAPS spokesperson, said the 39-year-old man saw a vehicle on a website and contacted the seller, who alleged that he works for a certain car dealer.

“They agreed to meet with the unknown person on Saturday on Tom Jones Street, Benoni CBD,” said Sekele.

“The man travelled from KwaZulu-Natal to get the vehicle.”

Sekele said when the man got to Benoni, he waited and looked at some vehicles displayed at a car dealer shop on Tom Jones Street, as the dealer was still closed.

“As he was waiting, two men approached him and convinced him that he could get a cheaper vehicle at another car dealer on Bunyan Street.

“While they were walking there, one of the men pointed a firearm at him, demanded money and told him they knew he had cash as they spoke to him about purchasing a vehicle.

“The man said he didn’t have money.

“They then took his bank card, forced him to give them a pin and transferred the money to their account.”

The man was robbed of R19 500.

No arrest has been made.
