Large parts of Benoni without water

If you live in Farrarmere, Airfield, Northmead or Rynfield and you are experiencing a water interruption, it is due to a 200mm steel water pipe being struck.

This is according to a message circulating in Benoni community groups stating that a fibre company, Vumatel, hit a steel pipe on the corner of Sheridan Road and Cambridge Street in Farrarmere.

“We will remain on site until this service has been fully repaired and any resident may approach us or contact us for any assistance,” said Travis Mason, Vumatel representative for Farrarmere, Northmead and Lakeside.

In the message, which Mason confirmed was sent by Vumatel, it stated the municipality was unsuccessful in locating the valve to the pipe and have been on site since 11am this morning.

As a result, the main valve at the reservoir will be switched off and a restoration timeline cannot be given at this stage.

“We are also working and communicating with the residents of the suburb and frequent updates are being sent out to the public groups,” Mason said.

“I would like to sincerely apologise to each and every single resident in the affected areas and I can assure you that we will work around the clock until it has been resolved.”

Mason can be contacted on travis.mason@vumatel.co.za
