Writing is therapeutic

This is a sequel to his first book, Hit Them With What You’ve Got, which was published in October 2014.

SA Legion member David Francis, who has ties to the SA Legion MC in Benoni, released a book titled Return to Orion in December 2017.

The book speaks about the Angolan War between the Cubans and SA forces that took place in Nambia in the ’70s and ’80s.

Francis said the books are fiction but have been adapted from true accounts of the war.

Francis explains how the Cubans outnumbered the SA forces and how they eventually run out of ammunition.

In order for them to get more ammunition, they had to cross a certain bridge.

The SA soldiers set out to destroy any opportunity to prevent the Cubans from accessing the thoroughfare.

“They managed to bomb the bridge while peace talks were taking place in New York and the war eventually ended,” he said.

Francis names Laubscher as one of his favourite characters in Return to Orion.

“He is one of the guys who gets killed on a mission,” he said.

“Even though he was already wounded and wrapped in bandages, he continued to fight in the war he paid for with his life.”

Taking about 30 years to write his first book, the Leigioneer plans on writing more books with his next one being a motivational self-help book called High on Life.

“It distresses me how many young people are addicted to drugs,” he said.

The advocate said writing has become therapeutic for him and he would encourage everyone to write.

“Keep a pen and paper next to your bed and write down your ideas.”

Francis said the proceeds from the books would go towards wheelchairs and food hampers for military veterans.
