EMM not aware of theft allegations

The EMM said the DA must report theft to law enforcement agencies.

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) has responded to allegations that they stole from a R1 387 379 budget that was allocated to fixing lifts at Deneys Conradie.

This comes after DA officials questioned why the lifts at the municipal-owned residentia have not been fixed as yet.

EMM spokesperson Themba Gadebe told the City Times last year that construction should have started in August 2016.

He explained on March 14 that the delay was due to the legal supply chain management processes that must be followed.

According to Gadebe, contractors were given appointment letters on March 7 and are expected to respond and accept the offer by March 14.

He said the municipality was not aware of the allegations of theft.

“We call on the DA to report the theft to law enforcement agencies and to refrain from grandstanding in the media,” he said.
