Sewage flowing onto Styx Road from the Actonville/Wattville Hostel has been a problem for residents and road users for over two months.

According to Ward 29 Clr Haseena Ismail, a pipe burst in December which was only fixed almost two months later.

Following the burst pipe another two burst; one was fixed but the other was still allowing an overflow onto Styx Road.

“The sewerage overflow that started again at two areas from the hostel onto Styx Road had been reported and escalated to various sections of the Human Settlements Department,” Ismail said.

“Due to no maintenance at the hostel in the past 23 years, this problem is recurring.”

After reporting and escalating the issue at all levels Ismail said she was told that the matter will not be addressed in the maintenance budget, but with the present renovation budget.

“I really thank residents for their patience,” she said.
